The challenge
A pharmacy group sells in two very different ways at once. There is the retail catalogue — everyday health, personal care and household products that behave like ordinary e-commerce — and there is the clinical side, where customers want advice, prescriptions and a physical pharmacy they can walk into.
Those two audiences arrive with completely different intent. Someone restocking a household item wants to search, add to cart and leave. Someone seeking treatment wants reassurance and a clear next step. Build the site as a pure shop and the clinical services get buried; build it as a clinic and the retail revenue disappears.
What I built
The platform runs on WordPress with WooCommerce handling the retail side. The catalogue splits into four top-level categories — Healthcare, Personal Care, Household, and Food & Beverage — with product pages carrying pricing, customer ratings and add-to-cart, so the pharmacy team manages stock and pricing without a developer.
The clinical side lives in a parallel structure rather than underneath the shop. A Health Hub and a Telehealth Doctor section cover consultations positioned like a visit to a local GP: smoking cessation, pain management, digestive health, and natural and alternative treatments, along with prescriptions, medical certificates and specialist referrals. Each has its own entry point from the main navigation.
A pharmacy services area and store locator complete the picture, with mapped branch listings carrying the address, phone number and email for each physical pharmacy. Ajax drives the in-page interactions so browsing, filtering and cart updates happen without full page reloads — which matters most on mobile, where the majority of pharmacy traffic arrives.
Outcome
The pharmacy runs retail sales, telehealth consultations and branch discovery from one platform the in-house team maintains, with neither side of the business cannibalising the other.
