The challenge

Gotham Auto Works offers services that each occupy a different amount of shop time — window tinting, ceramic coating, paint protection film, vinyl wrap, wheel and rim repair, and full detailing. Scheduling them by phone meant every enquiry was handled by hand, and the calendar lived somewhere the customer could not see.

The site needed to take bookings directly without the team losing control over which services could be booked into which slots.

What I built

I built a custom booking plugin rather than bending an off-the-shelf one to fit. Generic booking plugins assume every appointment is interchangeable and roughly the same length — an assumption that breaks immediately here, where a tint job and a full PPF install are nothing alike. Writing it directly meant the rules could match how the shop actually schedules work, and the whole flow stays on their own domain instead of handing customers to a third-party widget.

The plugin schedules against live availability, so the slots a customer sees are genuinely open. It presents the full service catalogue so the customer selects the exact treatment rather than booking a vague appointment the shop has to clarify by phone afterwards, and confirmation goes to both sides automatically.

The public site runs on WordPress so the team edits service copy and pricing themselves. The booking logic is deliberately isolated in the plugin rather than wired into the theme, so routine content edits cannot break scheduling.

The result

Real-time online scheduling removed the phone-and-paper loop from the booking process, cutting manual work by roughly 80%. Customers book any listed service themselves at any hour, and the shop works from a single authoritative calendar instead of reconciling phone notes against a diary.
